All About Vinyl

As you shop for vinyl floors, there are many factors to consider.

Vinyl Types

At Hamernick’s we have multiple categories of vinyl flooring, which together include tiles, planks, and vinyl sheets,—as well as products with enhanced cushioning and ultra dent, scratch, and stain resistance.
Luxury vinyl tile is designed to look like real stone or ceramic tile floors. LVT mimics the natural textures and colors of these materials hyper-realistically—with some designs going so far as to be installed with real grout!
Luxury vinyl planks look just like hardwood flooring. LVP is similar to LVT, only it comes in the form of long planks instead of tiles. LVP is fully customizable and available in a variety of styles, from hand-scraped to embossed wood looks.
You can also find vinyl in vinyl sheet form, a cushioned product that is able to adhere directly to your subfloor. At Hamernick’s, we offer sheet vinyl that is just as beautiful and sophisticated as LVT or LVP, minus some of the realism that comes from individual tiles or planks.

Luxury Vinyl Benefits

There are many benefits of luxury vinyl floors, including:

  • A high-performance product that is able to stand up to scratches, dents, stains, moisture, and other common forms of wear and tear.
  • Waterproof capabilities, depending on the specific product.
  • A warm, comfortable feel underfoot compared to real tile or wood.
  • The versatility to be installed anywhere in the home, at any grade.
  • A broad range of natural-looking, affordable styles.
  • Cushioned construction to absorb sound and regulate temperature.
  • Easy care and maintenance.

Vinyl vs. Resilient Flooring

Resilient flooring is a term that is sometimes used interchangeably with vinyl flooring. However, the two are not synonymous.

What is resilient flooring?
Resilient flooring is a broader category than vinyl—a catch-all name that actually includes several different types of flooring, such as cork, rubber, and linoleum. Resilient flooring types have “give,” also known as “bounce back.” They’re not quite a hard surface, nor are they soft—more of a middle ground that is durable, flexible, and relatively inexpensive compared to their natural counterparts.

What is luxury vinyl flooring?
Luxury vinyl, on the other hand, is a specific type of resilient flooring, engineered to resist the types of damage that resilient floors are most susceptible to, such as dents and scratches. If you still have questions about luxury vinyl or are looking for resilient flooring in the Twin Cities, the experts at Hamernick’s are always here to help!
